August 19, 2009 - All reclaimable materials are reused & recycled

Unitec Electronics is pleased to announce that the company’s environmental conservation efforts have reached new heights. Unitec Operations staff estimates the corporate office now recycles or reuses up to 96% of all recoverable materials at the facility, including shipping supplies and employee-produced materials. The latest addition includes commercial pick up service for consumer packaging like plastic drink bottles and cans.

In early 2002, Unitec’s first recycling efforts began with stainless steel and aluminum parts used in the manufacturing of Unitec products. An employee volunteered to make regular trips to a local recycling facility when the metal parts bin filled. Two years later, recycling became more extensive to include all metal parts and all office-generated paper. In 2005, Unitec entered a contractual arrangement to recycle electronic components, cables, sub-assemblies and office equipment.

Pam Piro, Unitec President & CEO, states “Our commitment to being environmentally responsible is a natural extension of our Core Corporate Values, which highlight a commitment to responsible, ethical performance. Our efforts were boosted two years ago with our company-wide ‘Waste Elimination Program’ which encouraged employees to generate “green” ideas.  I have been inspired by the tremendous commitment of our employees to embrace this initiative.”
